For parents and guardians

How you give consent for your child

In the app, on your child's phone, with your Face ID or passcode. Nothing to print, post or email.

Hey Jango can be used at any age. Under 16 it needs a parent's or guardian's consent, and that is given on your child's phone, in the app:

  1. The first screen asks your child's age.
  2. Under 16, the app asks them to hand the phone to you.
  3. You read what Jango is and what it keeps, type your full name and tap “I'm the parent or guardian: confirm”.
  4. You confirm with Face ID or the phone's passcode.

That confirmation, with your name, the date and the exact words you read, is kept in the account's consent record. There is no form to print, post or email.

What Jango is and what it keeps

Jango is an AI assistant, not a person. To answer your child, what they say and share is processed by our third-party AI and cloud service providers; this is how Jango works, so it cannot be used without it. Every provider, what each receives and how long things are kept are in the Privacy Centre, which also says who we are. We do not sell your data or use it for ad revenue.

Protections under 16

While your child is under 16: Jango never takes part in romantic or sexual talk; it does not make or share photos, videos or a copy of their voice; it keeps the account private (it cannot be found by phone number, cannot search for people by phone number or through its contacts, and cannot publish pages or channels); and it does not help with things only for adults. Your child cannot add a phone number to their profile or share one.

Under 13

For a child under 13, US law (the Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule, 16 CFR 312.5) asks for more than an unlock of the phone before anything is collected from the child. Jango cannot take that kind of consent in the app yet, so after you confirm, Jango stays closed on an account for a child under 13 and keeps nothing from them.

Profiles

A profile made on your child's sign-in has the same protections as the account it was made from, including the ones under 16. You cannot use a new profile to get round them. Each profile is kept apart, and deleting one deletes what it holds.

Your rights

You can see what is held about your child, have it deleted, and withdraw your consent at any time: in the app under Privacy, or by sending a request through the form at heyjango.com/support. Withdrawing closes the account and deletes what is held.

Letting the builders read a conversation. On a child's or teen's account the key that lets the people who build Jango read a conversation cannot be made at all, so they cannot open it. The voice log (what the voice pipeline decided and the words it heard) is not kept on our servers for an account that is not sharing, which includes every child's account.

Google and Outlook calendars. Connecting a Google or Outlook calendar is for the account holder only. It is not offered on a child's account or in careful mode, and nothing from a child's calendar is read by that route.

The Health hub. The Health hub (structured meal, workout, weight, sleep and goal records) is for the account holder only. It is not offered on a child's account or in careful mode, and Jango does not log health figures for a child into it.

Crashes, freezes and failed actions. If Jango crashes, freezes or fails to do something on your child's phone, a small note is sent: the app version, the iOS version, the screen name and the kind of problem. Nothing your child said or typed, and no names, places or contacts, are in it, and the counts per app version carry no account. In test versions only, the last 50 steps before a crash (screen and action names, audio route type, network type) go with it and are kept 30 days. It is deleted with the account.

Battery numbers. Jango counts, hour by hour, how long its own features were on and the battery level, so the team can fix battery drain, and sends only numbers (seconds, counts, kilobytes, percents). Nothing your child said or typed, and no names, places or contacts, are in it. It is in the same account as everything else, is kept 30 days on our servers and is deleted with the account. It can be switched off or deleted in the app under Settings, Advanced, Phone stats, Battery numbers.

Booking links. An account under 16 cannot make a booking link, and a link made before the account was marked under 16 shows nobody its free times. Jango never offers a child's free times on a public page.

The browser. Jango's browser keeps its tabs and history on your child's phone only, and nothing is sent to us. Saved passwords and addresses need Face ID or the passcode before they are saved or filled. A private tab keeps nothing. Card numbers are never saved. You can clear the history in the browser under Browser data.
